Royal Air Force Typhoon jets have joined forces with France's air force in a combined operation on an underground arms cache in Syria operated by the IS group, as stated by the UK's MoD.
The site, identified by reconnaissance, was believed to be storing arms and explosives, the release indicated, and was located in mountainous terrain just above the ancient city of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"The RAF jets employed Paveway IV guided bombs to target a series of approach shafts providing entry to the site... initial indications indicate the target was engaged successfully," the ministry announced.
There was no indication of any harm to civilians in the operation on Saturday evening and every plane involved returned safely, the defence officials confirmed.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager tanker plane.
IS - also known as ISIS - established extremist governance over significant areas in Syria and Iraq until 2019.
"This action underscores our UK leadership, and commitment to work closely with our allies, to eradicate any revival of the terrorist group and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the area," UK Defence Secretary John Healey remarked.
UK warplanes have conducted patrols over Syrian airspace to "prevent any attempted comeback" of Islamic State subsequent to its defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in the year 2019, the MoD reported.
"I extend gratitude to the personnel of our armed forces who took part in this mission for their professionalism and their valour," he commented. "They were part of thousands of British troops stationed over the festive period. This action, to remove militants who threaten our way of life, highlights how UK forces are prepared to act, continuously, keeping Britain secure at home and influential overseas."
Last December, the American forces conducted what it called a "massive strike" against Daesh sites in Syria, after an ambush resulted in the deaths of two US servicemembers and a civilian interpreter in the Palmyra area.
The UN estimates Daesh still boasts an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 fighters in Iraq and Syria.
