Iran Reports Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the US has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.
Additional Developments
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
