Southern California Experiences Unprecedented High Temperatures Just One Week After Severe Winter Storm.
After enduring torrential rains that caused flooding across sections of the city, LA is now seeing unusually warm conditions for late February.
Record-Setting Readings
On Friday midday, the temperature reached 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in downtown Los Angeles, as reported by meteorologists. This exceeds the previous daily record for this date, which was 88°F (31°C) and was set just last year.
"Very warm conditions" were labeled on NWS charts for the region.
Public Health Warnings
The weather service stated that Friday's heat posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their advice included:
- Staying hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Never leaving kids or animals unattended in a parked vehicle.
A Dramatic Shift
This sudden spike in heat arrives just after a powerful storm system that struck the region last week. That storm brought thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to mountainous regions, causing evacuation orders for many residents.

Temperatures Easing
Forecasters predict some relief is coming. Readings were expected to drop to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in the city by overnight.
Additional areas that hit ninety degrees were Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Meanwhile, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were projected to see the high 80s.
Over Saturday and Sunday, central Los Angeles can see readings in the eighties, with cooler weather expected for the start of March.
