UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Survival Horror with Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl harboring multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her exist four separate souls, all possessing their own anxieties and drives. These souls can take over at will, releasing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Based on revealed footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, though other scenes show the main character exploring a abandoned chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic involves managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with orderlies who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms where their heads should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four personas asserts that the body belongs to them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players believes a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, since each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The last one remaining might be a fake. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
